Getting To Know Passion Heart
Just a few short years ago, someone could have said the name Passion Heart on the racetrack and nobody would have known who it was. Well, today we’re going to give everyone a good chance to get to know the up and coming black daughter of Passionate Ruler and Heart of Stone. Of course, in order for you all to fully get to know Passion Heart, we are going to start from the beginning. Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, we are starting from her 2 year old season.
Passion Heart came onto the racing scene March week 4, Y12, at The Wire. The result was a 3rd place finish in the Lockness Maiden. She looked to be getting her career off to a nice start, however, this would be her best result until the Azalea Cup Fillies*, where she finished a respectable 2nd. She went winless and finished out of the money five times her 2 year old season.
Her 3 year old season was an improvement, she started the year out with a win. Then she came back to turn in a 3rd place finish in the Coronation Stakes* a prep for the Turf Triple Tiara. However, she didn’t do as well in the Turf Triple Tiara, she came in 4th in the Duchess Stakes*. She would go on to get a 2nd and another 3rd place finish. Passion Heart finished 3 times out of the money, including a 5th place finish in the Just A Game Stakes* which she narrowly won over The Devil’s Hourglass and Night Goddess this week.
Ally’s 4 year old season was a complete turnaround point. She started out with a 3rd place finish in the Expectation Running Stakes, she followed that up with a 2nd place finish in the Spring Cup Grade Five Turf*. She came to Grayson Meadows with two wins under her belt and after she won the Summer Cup Grade Five Turf* she’s been rattling wins off ever since. Her most recent being the Just A Game Stakes* by just a whisker over Night Goddess (G3) and The Devil’s Hourglass (G1), the very race she’d come in 5th place just one year ago.
So although she didn’t start out from the humblest of beginnings, Passion Heart has been tearing up the track this season and she’s coming out of each race stronger than ever. She may not be a blue blood, but she certainly runs like one.
Now she isn’t a sweetheart by any means, but perhaps that’s what makes her such a gritty mare. Ally is a fierce competitor with a nasty attitude, if you’re not careful around her you’re going to get burned. She tends to succeed when not pushed too hard, she’s a natural at what she does and she seems to have quite the passion for it. Her name fits her perfectly, she has one seriously passionate heart.
The coal black daughter of Passionate Ruler is bound for the Breeders’ Cup. Team Grayson Meadows is planning to send her to the G3 Viviparous Stakes in October week 1, and she will follow that up with the second race in that series, after that she’ll head to the Winter Cup. We suppose that many are wondering why we would send her right back to undercard races right after this major win? Well, our answer is simple, Ally needs the wins. The more experience we can get her the better chance we have of springing the biggest upset of the season in the Breeders’ Cup.
